System Biosciences

Challenge:

This is a small team of research scientists that produce products and services across exosome isolation, biomarker analysis, gene delivery systems, etc. They are frequently cited in professional journals, which is like gold in the life science industry, and their product developments are breakthrough. They required a new branding design aesthetic that could carry them through all manner of communications and set them apart from competitors whose marketing efforts looked bland at best, and cluttered at worst.

 

 

Solution:

Based on extensive interviews and other research with employees and industry colleagues, we set out to leverage their reputation as a company appealing to innovators. Specifically, System Biosciences could be seen as, quite literally, “fueling” their customers’ discoveries and research. A scientist who uses SBI products might find themselves on the cutting edge of the next breakthrough.

This concept was most effectively executed through the company’s packaging. The labels on each of their various jars, bottles, and vials of product bore a distinctive SBI Fuel designation, evocative of the label found on a gas can next to a Formula 1 car. By labeling the product this way, it could become standard vernacular to refer to SBI’s products as innovation fuel. That’s one in the win column, right there.

Results:

The “Innovation Fuel” concept didn’t just refresh SBI’s look, it gave the whole brand new energy. The bold new packaging stood out instantly against the wall of plain white competitor labels, sparking curiosity in labs and at conferences, alike. Trade show booths saw more foot traffic, with attendees stopping to check out the eye-catching designs and grab samples. Product photography became a star player in marketing campaigns, and the SBI team fully embraced the “Innovation Fuel” language, weaving it into everyday conversations. The impact showed up in the numbers, too, with nearly 2,000 organic impressions garnered each month, an 8% boost in page visitors, and a 5% lift in followers. Proof that when your brand stands out, people notice — and engage.
